Last Spring, while attending Prowein in Germany, I came across the Graves Association of Bordeaux "highlights" table where I had the opportunity to taste about 30-40 different Graves white wines. The wine on offer today immediately captured my attention and I tracked down the producer, Chateau La Rose Sarron, and struck up a conversation.
The "Ambassadeur de Graves" is a barrel-fermented and aged blend of all three grapes: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle.
Immediately Fumé-styled on the nose with noticeable barrel presence - think a Chard lovers’ White Bordeaux. Greets you with barrel spices wrapped around a core of lemon curd and orange creamsicle haloed by caramel - a little air opens up an orange chiffon and bergamot perfume. The entry is plush and mouth coating with resonant honeycomb flecked by ginger against a backdrop of medium, crystalline acidity. The finish is full for a white with resonant vanilla and spiced orange peel.
