Description

Lot 530 is a gorgeously crafted Cabernet Sauvignon (with a small touch of Petit Verdot) sourced from a producer renowned for sumptuous red expressions worthy of the legend of Oakville. The average price per vineyard acre in these parts is literally enough to buy a house, so the winemaking talent entrusted with the grapes goes without saying (a European-trained master, in this case). However, while critical acclaim and mid to high 90s scores offer prestige, they don’t necessarily guarantee high-volume sales, and folks like us are here to make quiet deals to bridge these market inefficiencies. Deal terms prohibit us from revealing the original label price, but it comfortably comes in north of $100/bottle, $1200/case under its original label. We’re thrilled to bring it to you for over 75% OFF!

A classic nose boasts dark fruit, savory herbs, spice, and boysenberry coulis haloed by plum, cocoa nib, florals, and a dusting of mocha. On the palate, dark berry pie, bay leaf-infused olive tapenade, and lifted spice are layered over a core of medium+ acidity, showing great ageability amidst plentiful, polished tannins. The enduring finish is dry and resonant, carried by additional dark fruit, crushed florals, and vanilla blossoms. Albeit still swaddled in baby fat, its tremendous potential is already starting to show through – if you plan on drinking this young, a 24-hour decant is highly recommended.

If past releases are any indication, today’s offer is going to be a big hit.

The wine business has faced its share of ups and downs in recent years, but one trend has remained unwavering: the price of Cab continues to go up. The latest annual industry numbers show that in 2024, Americans paid an average of $145 per bottle for Napa Valley Cabernet in their shipments – a 10% jump over 2023. For the longtime members of this list, that should make you feel quite good about yourselves – we’re consistently negotiating 4-5x value for you, and that multiple is realistically even higher since we only pursue wines from the upper-tier wineries. Case in point: we’ve hit absolute paydirt with our latest find – a classically styled 2023 Cabernet from the hallowed grounds of Oakville at an astonishing price (drumroll please) under $25/bottle! It’s not magic – just wine economics and good relationships.

Home to the legends of Napa winemaking and cult superstars, Oakville has been synonymous with world-class Cabernet for a long, long time. This slice of Napa Valley possesses ideal terroir for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest order. Warm sunny days are tempered by the ideal level of cooling influences from San Pablo Bay – perfect for this slow-ripening, thick-skinned varietal. The gravelly alluvial soils provide exceptional drainage, ensuring grapes of remarkable concentration. 2023 was marked by consistently cool weather, allowing the grapes to achieve a rare balance of full phenolic maturity and vibrant acidity. Hand-picked at peak ripeness, the berries were meticulously destemmed before fermentation to preserve their purity. The wine aged for 15 months in 100% French oak (40% new).
