Description

Lot 539 is a supremely refreshing, fully expressive beauty fermented in stainless steel. Boasting a flavor profile rarely experienced elsewhere, it’s a testament to the wine’s terroir and sense of place. With only a handful of wineries bottling a 100% Sauvignon Blanc at this level in the Russian River Valley we have to be extra careful here to protect our source, but this is a highly-anticipated annual release that routinely lands in the mid-90s, and the closest we can get to naming a retail price is somewhere in the ballpark of $45+/bottle. As with many other wineries, the combination of abundant yields in ’23 followed by an industry-wide dip in sales is opening up opportunities such as this – one of finest Sauvignon Blancs in the appellation for well over 60% OFF!

Opening with an elegant nose of jasmine blossom, lemongrass, lemon oil, and subtle matcha layered over a core of slate-driven minerality, the palate showcases impressive texture and precision, with medium+ acidity and notes of citrus essence, saline, and delicate spice enhancing the wine’s mineral backbone. The finish is clean and cohesive, echoing with wet river stone, citrus umami, and gentle thread of ginger-like spice. A truly unique experience in every sip.

Time for a distinct Sauvignon Blanc from an apex vintage for under $15 a bottle!

While Dry Creek Valley has long enjoyed top billing as Sonoma’s premier source for Sauvignon Blanc, its neighbor just to the south, the Russian River Valley, has been steadily carving out its own distinguished reputation for this varietal. Though traditionally renowned for Chardonnay, this appellation is home to outstanding expressions of Sauvignon Blanc with a character all their own, setting them apart from those of New Zealand, France, and its California neighbors. While the volume of plantings here are still dwarfed by Chard over 5 to 1, there is excellence to be found if you know where to look...

Our source's vineyards occupy some of the most coveted land in the Russian River Valley. Fog and wind through the Petaluma Gap (on full display during the cool ’23 vintage) ensures the grapes lock in vibrant acidity, while sandy loam and Franciscan assemblage soils limit vigor, increasing berry concentration. Cold fermentation in stainless steel guaranteed the purest expression of terroir, withholding malolactic maintained acidity, and daily gentle lees stirring enriched it with just the right amount of texture (more weightless than creamy), rounding out the wine beautifully.
