Lot 506 is an outstanding 100% estate single-vineyard Pinot Noir with a clear Burgundian soul. If the Russian River Valley had its own tiered classification for vineyards, today’s source would certainly carry a Grand Cru rating. True to Burgundian tradition, each block was fermented separately, with the wine then aged just under a year in barrels of the finest French cooperage. It’s as elegant a Pinot as you’ll find anywhere this side of the pond.

A seductive nose of pomegranate and raspberries draws you into the glass, with a second swirl revealing allspice, tobacco leaf, and dried herbs. The entry is juicy, with cherries, strawberries, and a hint of plum wrapped by earthy notes of dried leaves and cocoa shavings, all balanced by deft acidity and perfectly integrated tannins. The finish is uplifted with delicate florals, concentrated strawberry sauce, and a savory mushroom umami, unveiling vanilla blossoms that carry on with remarkable length and finesse.
