Today’s offering comes from hallowed ground.
Of all the storied appellations in the Côtes de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée is perhaps the most revered village of them all. Cemented as Burgundy’s crown jewel since the monks from the Abbey of Saint-Vivant cultivated the vineyards in the Middle Ages, the wines produced here are simply unmatched in refinement and complexity – this little corner of Burgundy sets the high-water mark for the entire winemaking world. Home to the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (producer of the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold at auction in the history of the world at $558,000, with the latest vintages starting around $30,000 per bottle), the soil here is quite literally worth its weight in gold.
With the Grand Crus commanding stratospheric prices and the Premier Crus close on their heels, there really are no “common” wines from Vosne-Romanée – even the Village-level bottlings are revered, with triple-digit prices of entry being relatively common. The AOC’s small acreage means that available supply and access is notoriously elusive, but our relationship with a source in Nuits-Saint-Georges has unlocked the code to make the unaffordable within reach…
Éleveur | 2020 Vosne-Romanée Le Village Rouge is a 100% Pinot Noir from Burgundy’s most coveted appellation. Awarded 94 points from James Suckling under our label, this wine exemplifies remarkable depth and concentration, yet maintains a superb freshness – a testament to the masterful touch of our source. As demand for Burgundy’s top-rated 2020s keeps climbing, availability grows steadily scarce – this wine appears in brief flashes here and there at various retailers around $130 per bottle, but we’re offering it at an unprecedented value: 55% OFF, and that’s before factoring in savings on shipping. As always, when it comes to wine, you’ll never get more for your dollar than with us.
Our price: $349/6-pack, $58+/bottle.
Sourced from old vineyards deeply rooted in clay-limestone soils, these vines yield tiny bunches of immensely concentrated small berries. In the warm and dry conditions of the 2020 growing season, the fruit achieved a rare level of ripeness. After they were hand-picked and meticulously hand-sorted in the vineyard, the grapes were destemmed, then underwent minimal intervention during fermentation with just two punch downs over 20 days to preserve the purity of this epic terroir. The wine aged for six months in 33% new oak barrels, followed by another six months in neutral oak.
Beautiful extraction on the pour leads to enticing aromas of strawberry sauce, herbs, blackcurrants, and forest floor wrapped in violets with a touch of game. The entry is expertly crafted and terroir-driven, with additional blackcurrant, dried leaves, and leather underpinned by balanced acidity and plentiful small, velvety tannins. The enduring finish is dry, clean, and mineral-laden, returning with vanilla and black brambles interwoven with barrel spice and dried herbs. Simply sublime.
