Description

Lot 543 comes to us from a historic blue-chip winery’s reserve program that specializes in single-vineyard and single-block expressions. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the crown jewels in their award-winning lineup – a sublimely elegant Napa Cab with a true Old-World soul. The series regularly fetches scores in the 90s from the top critics year over year, but the 2021 vintage featured an exceptional level of depth and concentration to the elegance for which Oak Knoll is renowned. Commanding north of $100+/bottle direct from the source (and a history of even higher prices on secondary markets), we’ve worked our magic to bring this to you at a quarter of the price!

This Cab is dark on the pour, with a nose of black cherries, graphite, crushed stone, eucalyptus, and menthol. On the palate, this wine wears its age well, with a terroir-focused presentation of black currants, wet gravel, leather, and clay dust set within incredible structure and firm acidity that suggests so much more is yet to come. The finish is long and refined, where dry, perfectly integrated tannins reveal further layers of graphite and black cherries evolving into plum and cassis, all elegantly wrapped in vanilla blossoms.

Exceptional opportunities arise in times of market flux, and today's offer is one of them: we’ve secured a 2021 Oak Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon for 75% OFF!

Facing significant shifts in demand, producers are finding that their 2021s (still the current Cabernet vintage release at many wineries) aren’t selling as anticipated, and with a hefty amount of ‘22s and ‘23s still waiting in the wings, many deals for wines previously off-limits continue to present themselves. There are some very big names (whose names rarely appear on the market) showing up in our inboxes these days, and today’s offer is one of them. For the discerning buyers on this list, this means access to one of the most celebrated vintages in recent memory at an astounding value.

Tucked into the southern end of the valley, Oak Knoll's proximity to San Pablo Bay makes it cooler than Napa’s northern appellations. It’s also one of the drier areas in the region, which during the bone dry 2021, produced extremely low yields of very intense fruit. Across a growing season without major heat spikes, the berries ripened gently and achieved epic levels of concentration. Due to mild weather throughout harvest, our source was able to hand-pick when the fruit was at its absolute peak. Sorted in the vineyard and again in the cellar, it underwent a gentle fermentation before settling into 40% new French oak barrels of the finest cooperage for 24 months.
